A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to a study on sexually transmitted diseases among elderly
  persons in this state.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter B, Chapter 81, Health and Safety
  Code, is amended by adding Section 81.025 to read as follows:
         Sec. 81.025.  STUDY ON SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES AMONG
  ELDERLY PERSONS.  (a) The department and the commission shall
  conduct a study regarding:
               (1)  the incidence and prevalence of sexually
  transmitted diseases among elderly persons in this state, including
  persons who reside in a facility licensed under Chapter 242 or 247;
  and
               (2)  methods for reducing the risk of contracting a
  sexually transmitted disease for elderly persons in this state,
  including persons who reside in a facility licensed under Chapter
  242 or 247.
         (b)  Not later than September 1, 2018, the commissioner and
  executive commissioner shall submit to the legislature a report
  that:
               (1)  summarizes the findings of the study conducted
  under Subsection (a); and 
               (2)  includes recommendations and strategies for
  reducing the incidence and prevalence of sexually transmitted
  diseases among elderly persons in this state, including persons who
  reside in a facility licensed under Chapter 242 or 247.
         (c)  This section expires September 1, 2019.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
