A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to creating a criminal offense for a candidate for public |
|
office who misrepresents the candidate's residency. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 141, Election Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 141.005 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 141.005. UNLAWFUL MISREPRESENTATION OF RESIDENCY |
|
STATUS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person knowingly or |
|
intentionally misrepresents the person's residency to appear |
|
eligible to be a candidate for, or elected or appointed to, a public |
|
elective office in this state. |
|
(b) An offense under this section is a felony of the third |
|
degree. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
