A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the date of the general election for state and county
  officers.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 41.002, Election Code, is amended to
  read as follows:
         Sec. 41.002.  GENERAL ELECTION FOR STATE AND COUNTY
  OFFICERS. The general election for state and county officers shall
  be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in
  odd-numbered [even-numbered] years.
         SECTION 2.  Section 41.007, Election Code, is amended to
  read as follows:
         Sec. 41.007.  PRIMARY ELECTIONS. (a)  The general primary
  election date is the first Tuesday in September [March] in each
  odd-numbered [even-numbered] year.
         (b)  The runoff primary election date is the fourth Tuesday
  in September [fourth Tuesday in May] following the general primary
  election.
         (c)  The presidential primary election date is the first
  Tuesday in March in each presidential election year.
         (d)  No other election may be held on the date of a primary
  election.
         SECTION 3.  Section 172.023(a), Election Code, is amended to
  read as follows:
         (a)  An application for a place on the general primary
  election ballot must be filed not later than 6 p.m. on the second
  Monday in December of an even-numbered [odd-numbered] year unless
  the filing deadline is extended under Subchapter C.
         SECTION 4.  This Act takes effect January 1, 2022.
