relating to the identification required for voting of a voter with a | ||
recent name change. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 63.0101, Election Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subsections (d) and (e) to read as follows: | ||
(d) A person whose name has changed not more than two years | ||
before the date the person offers to vote may present | ||
identification that shows a name of the voter that does not match | ||
the name on the precinct list of registered voters if the person | ||
also presents certified documentation of the name change that | ||
shows: | ||
(1) the name of the voter shown on the precinct list of | ||
registered voters; and | ||
(2) the name of the voter shown on the identification | ||
presented. | ||
(e) For purposes of Subsection (d), a signed statement from | ||
a physician on the letterhead of the physician's official | ||
stationery that confirms the person's identity constitutes | ||
certified documentation. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
