A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the identification required for voting of a voter with a
  recent name change.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 63.0101, Election Code, is amended by
  adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
         (d)  A person whose name has changed not more than two years
  before the date the person offers to vote may present
  identification that shows a name of the voter that does not match
  the name on the precinct list of registered voters if the person
  also presents:
               (1)  certified documentation of the name change that
  shows:
                     (A)  the name of the voter shown on the precinct
  list of registered voters; and
                     (B)  the name of the voter shown on the
  identification presented; or
               (2)  citizenship documentation that shows that the
  voter recently took a new name as part of the citizenship process.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
