relating to the identification required for voting of a voter with a | ||
recent name change. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 63.0101, Election Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: | ||
(d) A person whose name has changed not more than two years | ||
before the date the person offers to vote may present | ||
identification that shows a name of the voter that does not match | ||
the name on the precinct list of registered voters if the person | ||
also presents: | ||
(1) certified documentation of the name change that | ||
shows: | ||
(A) the name of the voter shown on the precinct | ||
list of registered voters; and | ||
(B) the name of the voter shown on the | ||
identification presented; or | ||
(2) citizenship documentation that shows that the | ||
voter recently took a new name as part of the citizenship process. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
