| relating to the identification required for voting of a voter with a | ||
| recent name change. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 63.0101, Election Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: | ||
| (d) A person whose name has changed not more than two years | ||
| before the date the person offers to vote may present | ||
| identification that shows a name of the voter that does not match | ||
| the name on the precinct list of registered voters if the person | ||
| also presents: | ||
| (1) certified documentation of the name change that | ||
| shows: | ||
| (A) the name of the voter shown on the precinct | ||
| list of registered voters; and | ||
| (B) the name of the voter shown on the | ||
| identification presented; or | ||
| (2) citizenship documentation that shows that the | ||
| voter recently took a new name as part of the citizenship process. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. | ||
