| schools to conferences for purposes of competition. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 33, Education Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 33.0891 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 33.0891. ASSIGNMENT OF SCHOOLS TO CONFERENCES BY | ||
| UNIVERSITY INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE. In assigning schools to | ||
| appropriate conferences for purposes of competition based on the | ||
| number of students enrolled in each school, the University | ||
| Interscholastic League shall use only student enrollment | ||
| information provided by the agency to the league for that purpose. | ||
| SECTION 2. Section 33.0891, Education Code, as added by | ||
| this Act, applies beginning with the first University | ||
| Interscholastic League reclassification that occurs on or after the | ||
| effective date of this Act. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2017. | ||
