A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the powers and duties of a commissioners court to levy
  and collect taxes on behalf of a navigation district.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 62.160, Water Code, is amended to read as
  follows:
         Sec. 62.160.  MAINTENANCE TAX.  (a) The commissioners courts
  of the respective counties inside each district may levy and have
  assessed and collected for the maintenance, operation, and upkeep
  of the district and the improvements constructed by the district an
  annual tax not to exceed 10 cents on the $100 valuation on all
  property inside the district.
         (b)  In the event of the tax being suspended by a district
  located in a county with a population of not less than 400,000 and
  not more than 4 million that borders the Gulf of Mexico, or a county
  that borders the Gulf of Mexico and is adjacent to such a county,
  the tax may be reinstated upon request by the district to the county
  tax assessor-collector.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
