A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the availability of information regarding the |
|
|
eligibility of persons with disabilities to use certain public |
|
|
transportation services. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 461.009, Transportation Code, is amended |
|
|
by adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: |
|
|
(c) The department shall post on the department's Internet |
|
|
website information regarding how an individual who is eligible to |
|
|
use a provider's services may access another provider's services |
|
|
when the individual visits the other provider's service area. The |
|
|
website must identify each provider's service area and provide |
|
|
contact information for each provider. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Chapter 461, Transportation Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Section 461.010 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 461.010. DATABASE OF PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SERVICES |
|
|
FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES. (a) In this section, "provider" and |
|
|
"services" have the meanings assigned by Section 461.009. |
|
|
(b) The department shall establish a database of all |
|
|
individuals who are eligible to use a provider's services in this |
|
|
state and authorize each provider in the state to access the |
|
|
database. Each provider in the state must maintain data in the |
|
|
database identifying each individual who resides in the provider's |
|
|
service area and who is eligible to use the provider's services. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
