BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 61, Education Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 61.06651 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 61.06651. STUDY ON ELECTRONIC TEXTBOOK AND COURSE | ||
MATERIAL COSTS. (a) In this section, "core curriculum" has the | ||
meaning assigned by Section 61.821. | ||
(b) The board shall conduct a study on methods to reduce the | ||
cost of electronic textbooks and course materials required or | ||
recommended for core curriculum courses. | ||
(c) Not later than December 31, 2020, the board shall submit | ||
to the governor, the lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house | ||
of representatives, and the chair of each legislative standing | ||
committee with jurisdiction over higher education a report on the | ||
results of the study and any recommendations for legislative or | ||
other action. | ||
(d) This section expires September 1, 2021. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
