A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to examination requirements for child protective services
  caseworkers.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter B, Chapter 40, Human Resources Code,
  is amended by adding Section 40.0328 to read as follows:
         Sec. 40.0328.  CASEWORKER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
  EXAMINATION.  (a)  A child protective services caseworker may not
  work in the field unless the caseworker has passed the child
  protective services professional development examination with a
  score of 70 percent or more.
         (b)  A caseworker who does not pass the child protective
  services professional development examination may not retake the
  examination until the caseworker has completed a skills development
  plan under the supervision of the caseworker's direct supervisor.  
  A caseworker may not take the examination more than three times.
         (c)  The department may annually update the child protective
  services professional development examination.
         (d)  The executive commissioner may adopt rules to implement
  this section.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
