| relating to the form of a candidate's name on a ballot. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 52.031, Election Code, is amended by | ||
| amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (a-1) to read as | ||
| follows: | ||
| (a) A candidate's name shall be printed on the ballot with | ||
| the given name or initials first, followed by a nickname, if any, | ||
| followed by the surname, including any married name, in accordance | ||
| with this section. | ||
| (a-1) A person may use any surname acquired by law or | ||
| marriage. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. | ||
