A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the deadline to challenge a candidate's application for
  a place on the ballot.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 141.034(a), Election Code, is amended to
  read as follows:
         (a)  An application for a place on the ballot may not be
  challenged for compliance with the applicable requirements as to
  form, content, and procedure after the 50th day before [any ballot
  to be voted early by mail is mailed to an address in the authority's
  jurisdiction for] the date of the election for which the
  application is made.
         SECTION 2.  The change in law made by this Act applies only
  to an application filed under Subchapter B, Chapter 141, Election
  Code, on or after the effective date of this Act. An application
  filed before the effective date of this Act is subject to the law in
  effect at the time the report was filed, and the former law is
  continued in effect for that purpose.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
