relating to grants for the development and operation of pretrial | ||
intervention programs for pregnant defendants and defendants who | ||
are the primary caretaker of a child. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 509.011, Government Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows: | ||
(b-1) The division may award a grant to a department for the | ||
development and operation of a pretrial intervention program for | ||
defendants who are: | ||
(1) pregnant at the time of placement into the | ||
program; or | ||
(2) the primary caretaker of a child younger than 18 | ||
years of age. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2019. | ||
