| assistance division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Chapter 509, Government Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Section 509.0042 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 509.0042. VETERANS COORDINATOR. (a) The division | ||
| shall designate a veterans coordinator for the division to provide | ||
| technical support to departments regarding the supervision of | ||
| defendants who are veterans. | ||
| (b) The veterans coordinator may work in consultation with | ||
| veterans coordinators for any other division of the Texas | ||
| Department of Criminal Justice. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. | ||
