A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to a study on early detection and early intervention in
  cases of children with autism spectrum disorders.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  (a) The Health and Human Services Commission
  shall conduct a study on:
               (1)  early detection and early intervention in cases of
  children with autism spectrum disorders, including the accurate
  diagnosis of children with autism spectrum disorders at birth;
               (2)  the educational and developmental benefits of
  early diagnosis and the prompt provision of therapy to children
  diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders; and
               (3)  potential legislative solutions to promote early
  diagnosis and early intervention in cases of children with autism
  spectrum disorders.
         (b)  Not later than December 1, 2018, the executive
  commissioner of the Health and Human Services Commission shall
  provide a report on the results of the study to the governor, the
  lieutenant governor, and the legislature.
         (c)  This section expires September 1, 2019.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
