A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE DR. WILLIAM B. JAMES, JR., UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS SUPERINTENDENT OF LEXINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT TWO, TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CAREER IN EDUCATION, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN THE YEARS TO COME.

Whereas, Dr. William B. James, Jr., is an alumnus of Wofford College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology; the University of South Carolina, where he earned a Master of Education in Natural Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration; and Clemson University, where he earned an Educational Specialist in Administration; and

Whereas, having dedicated his career to helping students in South Carolina succeed, Dr. James has spent more than four decades in education. He has served as a high school biology teacher, assistant principal, principal, educational consultant, and superintendent; and

Whereas, as superintendent of Lexington School District Two, he implemented a $225 million dollar construction program and helped create a long-term finance and construction plan and maintenance schedule. Under his leadership, the district introduced a number of initiatives to support college and career readiness and its teachers and administrators, including an Innovation Center, Early College and Career Pathways program, plan to reduce classroom sizes, partnership with the University of South Carolina for professional development, and extension of assistant principal contracts; and

Whereas, a leader in his community and profession, Dr. James has served with many organizations, including the South Carolina Association of School Administrators and its Superintendents' Executive Committee, South Carolina Commission for Minority Affairs, Midlands Superintendent Consortium, Midlands Technical College Advisory Board, American Association of School Administrators, Habitat for Humanity Board, Rotary Club, Gaffney Rotary Club, Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and its Board, Upstate Carolina Medical Center Hospital Board, Boys and Girls Club of the Upstate Board, Harbor of Hope Board, Spartanburg Technical College Advisory Committee, Gaffney Police Department Advisory Committee, Cherokee County Boys & Girls Club, Olde English Consortium, University of South Carolina Board of Administrative Development, State Department of Education Task Force for Transition, South Carolina Association of Secondary Administrators, Phi Delta Kappa, National Association of Secondary Principals, and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development; and

Whereas, throughout his distinguished tenure, Dr. James has received a number of honors and awards, most notably the Lifetime Achievement Award from the South Carolina Association of School Administrators; and

Whereas, a devout Christian, Dr. James is a member of Chapin United Methodist Church. He formerly served with Buford Street United Methodist Church as a member of its Pastor Parish Relations Committee and as a Sunday school teacher; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are proud to recognize this son of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Dr. William B. James, Jr., upon the occasion of his retirement as superintendent of Lexington School District Two, commend him for his outstanding career in education, and wish him much happiness and fulfillment in the years to come.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. William B. James, Jr.
