A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR BETH HUTCHISON ON HER EIGHTEEN YEARS OF DEDICATED AND OUTSTANDING SERVICE ON THE DISTRICT FIVE OF LEXINGTON & RICHLAND COUNTIES BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT FROM THE BOARD, TO WISH HER MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN THE YEARS AHEAD.

Whereas, for eighteen years, the District Five of Lexington & Richland Counties Board of Trustees has enjoyed the benefit of the dedication, experience, and leadership of Beth Hutchison, who soon will step down from her post as a member of the board, which she presently serves as vice chairman; and

Whereas, Beth Hutchison has been actively involved in School District Five for over twenty-five years. She has volunteered in the classroom, served as PTO president at Harbison West Elementary, chaired Irmo High's School Improvement Council, and served as chair of the successful 1996 District Five School Bond referendum, which resulted in new classrooms and renovated facilities across the district. Over the years, she has served as secretary, vice chairman, and chairman of the School District Five Board of Trustees and on several districtwide committees; and

Whereas, this student-focused champion for early childhood education is an advocate for environmental sustainability and awareness, a supporter of the district's magnet school programs, and a strong advocate for the teachers and staff. She especially enjoys watching District Five students receive their diplomas from Irmo, Dutch Fork, Chapin, and Spring Hill high schools; and

Whereas, Ms. Hutchison spent her career working in higher education. She holds a bachelor's degree in journalism with a public relations focus and a master's degree in public administration, both from the University of South Carolina. Now a delighted grandmother, she is also the proud mother of two children, both of whom graduated from Irmo High School; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives, profoundly grateful for Beth Hutchison's many years of faithfulness in serving the people of South Carolina, takes great pleasure in commending her for her contributions to quality education in this great State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate and honor Beth Hutchison on her eighteen years of dedicated and outstanding service on the District Five of Lexington & Richland Counties Board of Trustees and, upon the occasion of her retirement from the board, wish her much happiness and fulfillment in the years ahead.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Beth Hutchison.
