A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE PORTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 55 IN YORK COUNTY FROM ITS INTERSECTION WITH THE YORK/CHEROKEE COUNTY LINE TO ITS INTERSECTION WITH SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 161 "STATE REPRESENTATIVE HUGH J. LOVE HIGHWAY" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS ALONG THIS PORTION OF HIGHWAY THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS "STATE REPRESENTATIVE HUGH J. LOVE HIGHWAY".

Whereas, the Honorable Hugh Jackson Love was born on September 21, 1895, in the Beersheba Community of York County, the son of Hugh S. and Sarah Hughes Love, and was a World War I veteran; and

Whereas, on May 24, 1928, he married Winnie Ethel Brown and together they were blessed with two daughters; and

Whereas, he was a successful York County businessman, having served as a merchant, secretary-treasurer and general manager of Clover Gin & Feed Company, and a farmer; and

Whereas, he was a distinguished member of the South Carolina House of Representatives for fourteen years; and

Whereas, it would be fitting and proper to recognize the many accomplishments of this son of South Carolina by naming a portion of South Carolina Highway 55 in his honor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, request that the Department of Transportation name the portion of South Carolina Highway 55 in York County from its intersection with the York/Cherokee County line to its intersection with South Carolina Highway 161 "State Representative Hugh J. Love Highway" and erect appropriate markers or signs along this portion of highway that contain the words "State Representative Hugh J. Love Highway".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
