A RESOLUTION

Congratulating Center Rock, Inc., and Schramm, Inc., for their

2

efforts to help free Chilean miners trapped underground for

3

more than two months.

4

WHEREAS, Two Pennsylvania companies played a significant role

5

in rescuing 33 Chilean miners who have been trapped 2,300 feet

6

underground in a collapsed copper and gold mine since August 5,

7

2010; and

8

WHEREAS, The drilling rig, designed by Schramm, Inc., of West

9

Chester, Chester County, has been on the site since August 22

10

drilling a 5½-inch-diameter bore hole used to supply the miners

11

with food; and

12

WHEREAS, The rig used a drill bit designed by Center Rock

13

Inc., of Berlin, Somerset County, which expanded one of several

14

pilot holes to 12 inches, reaching the miners on September 18,

15

2010; and

16

WHEREAS, Center Rock President, Brandon Fisher, when informed

17

that the miners might not be free until Christmas, knew he had a

18

quicker way to get them out; and

WHEREAS, Center Rock's 75 employees helped make the parts,

2

while owner Brandon Fisher went to Chile to make sure it worked;

3

and

4

WHEREAS, Center Rock and Schramm's equipment later enlarged

5

the hole from 12 to 28 inches to allow the miners to be hoisted

6

to the surface in a capsule; and

7

WHEREAS, Fisher's drill heads also helped save nine men in

8

Somerset County in the Quecreek Mine disaster in 2002; and

9

WHEREAS, The ingenuity, hard work and dedication of the

10

workers of Center Rock and Schramm will save 33 lives and help

11

to reunite the Chilean workers with their families and friends;

12

therefore be it

13

RESOLVED, That the Senate congratulate and thank both Center

14

Rock, Inc., and Schramm, Inc., for their hard work and

15

dedication to freeing the Chilean miners.
