| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Honoring the life and service of Officer Derek Kotecki. |
2 | Whereas, Officer Derek Kotecki was a wonderful husband to his |
3 | wife, Julie, and the proud father of two boys, Nicholas and |
4 | Alexander; and |
5 | Whereas, Officer Kotecki was an integral part of the Lower |
6 | Burrell community for many years and was involved in a number of |
7 | activities growing up there, including Little League baseball; |
8 | and |
9 | Whereas, Officer Kotecki was a graduate of Burrell High |
10 | School where he played on the basketball team; and |
11 | Whereas, Officer Kotecki served as a police officer in Ocean |
12 | City before being hired full time by the Lower Burrell Police |
13 | Force, saying that he "wanted to be able to go home and actually |
14 | feel like I did something at the end of the day"; and |
15 | Whereas, Officer Derek Kotecki was an 18-year veteran of the |
16 | Lower Burrell Police Force; and |
17 | Whereas, Officer Kotecki frequently visited local schools as |

1 | part of his commitment to the community; and |
2 | Whereas, He was described as a "true hero" by fellow officers |
3 | who served with him; and |
4 | Whereas, Officer Kotecki was involved in some of the first |
5 | antidrug programs in the Burrell School District; and |
6 | Whereas, Officer Kotecki's life was cut short in the line of |
7 | duty, when he was gunned down by a fugitive; and |
8 | Whereas, He will be remembered for his commitment to the |
9 | community and those who served with him; therefore be it |
10 | Resolved, That the Senate of Pennsylvania express condolences |
11 | to the family of Officer Derek Kotecki and pay tribute to the |
12 | service that he gave to his community and the Lower Burrell |
13 | Police Force. |
