A RESOLUTION

Acknowledging the celebration of "Adult Day Services Week" in

2

Pennsylvania during the week of September 16 through 22,

3

2012, and the contribution of adult day services providers in

4

this Commonwealth.

5

WHEREAS, National Adult Day Services Week was first started

6

in 1983, recognized by the United States Congress and proclaimed

7

by President Ronald Reagan as an opportunity to spotlight adult

8

day centers throughout the country and to educate the public on

9

the benefits provided by adult day centers; and

10

WHEREAS, In conjunction with the celebration of National

11

Adult Day Services Week, Governor Tom Corbett has proclaimed the

12

week of September 16 through 22, 2012, as Adult Day Services

13

Week in Pennsylvania; and

14

WHEREAS, Adult day services comprise a key component of

15

Pennsylvania's home and community-based care continuum by

16

enabling older adults to remain in their homes rather than be

placed in a residential long-term-care setting; and 

2

WHEREAS, Adult day services provide a significant respite for

3

caregivers, enabling them to work outside of the home or to take

4

a much-needed break from the rigors of 24-hour caregiving; and 

5

WHEREAS, The number of adult day centers in this Commonwealth

6

has grown from six licensed centers in 1980 to 255 adult day

7

centers currently, and those adult day centers serve

8

approximately 12,250 older adults; therefore be it

9

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives acknowledge the

10

the celebration of "Adult Day Services Week" in Pennsylvania

11

during the week of September 16 through 22, 2012, and the

12

contribution of adult day services providers in this

13

Commonwealth.
