A RESOLUTION

  

1

Honoring the life and service of William W. Rieger, former

2

member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, who

3

passed away on December 11, 2009, at 87 years of age.

4

WHEREAS, William W. Rieger, the son of Charles and Hannah

5

Frances Rieger, was born in 1922 in Philadelphia; and

6

WHEREAS, Mr. Rieger graduated from Simon Gratz High School

7

and served in the United States Army during World War II; and

8

WHEREAS, Mr. Rieger served as a Democratic committeeman for

9

31 years in the 43rd Ward in Philadelphia and also served as

10

ward leader; and

11

WHEREAS, Among his other public service recognitions, Mr.

12

Rieger was awarded the 43rd Ward Committee Association Civic

Award; and

2

WHEREAS, Mr. Rieger was a member of the San Antonio Society

3

and the American Legion, Cpl. John Loudenslage Post 366; and

4

WHEREAS, Representative Rieger was elected to the

5

Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1966; and

6

WHEREAS, Representative Rieger was an astute public servant

7

and an outspoken advocate for his constituents, and he always

8

had the courage of his convictions; and

9

WHEREAS, Representative Rieger was reelected to the House of

10

Representatives by his faithful constituents for four decades,

11

having served for 20 consecutive terms until his retirement in

12

2006; and

13

WHEREAS, During his last complete year in office, at 84 years

14

of age, Representative Rieger was the oldest serving member of

15

the Legislature; therefore be it

16

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the

17

distinguished life and career of selfless public service of

18

Representative William W. Rieger and express its deepest

19

sympathy to his surviving family members.
