A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and honoring the life and service of United States

2

Army Staff Sergeant Sean M. Flannery and paying tribute to

3

his ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty while on patrol in

4

Kandahar Province, Afghanistan.

5

WHEREAS, United States Army Staff Sergeant Sean M. Flannery,

6

29, was killed in an insurgent attack on November 22, 2010,

7

while on patrol in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan; and

8

WHEREAS Staff Sgt. Flannery graduated from Wyomissing High

9

School in 1999 and received his bachelor's degree from

10

Shippensburg University in 2003; and 

11

WHEREAS, In 2004, Sean M. Flannery joined the United States

12

Army and was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry

Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division,

2

based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; and

3

WHEREAS, He rose to the rank of staff sergeant and served two

4

tours of duty in Iraq and a previous tour in Afghanistan; and

5

WHEREAS, For his selfless and courageous service to his

6

country, Staff Sgt. Flannery was awarded the Bronze Star, as

7

well as the Overseas Service Ribbon; and

8

WHEREAS, Staff Sgt. Flannery took great pride in his men and

9

their assignments and was a dedicated, determined and

10

exceptional soldier who enthusiastically fulfilled his duties to

11

protect and promote the cause of freedom; and

12

WHEREAS, Staff Sgt. Flannery is the son of the late Michael

13

F. Flannery and is survived by his mother, Charlene V. Flannery;

14

brothers, Sgt. Brian P. Flannery, who is stationed at Fort

15

Bragg, North Carolina, and Devin J. Flannery; and his fiancee,

16

Christina E. Martin; and

17

WHEREAS, Governor Edward G. Rendell ordered flags to be flown

18

at half staff throughout this Commonwealth in honor of the

19

ultimate sacrifice of this brave soldier, Staff Sgt. Sean M.

20

Flannery; therefore be it

21

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize and

22

honor the life and service of United States Army Staff Sergeant

23

Sean M. Flannery and pay tribute to his ultimate sacrifice in

24

the line of duty while on patrol in Kandahar Province,

25

Afghanistan.
