| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Memorializing the Congress of the United States to work with |
2 | General Motors Corporation to ensure that the General Motors |
3 | brand dealership owners are treated justly and compensated |
4 | fairly. |
5 | WHEREAS, According to the National Automobile Dealers |
6 | Association, General Motors Corporation plans to close |
7 | approximately 1,350 dealerships within the coming months; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Over decades, local General Motors brand franchise |
9 | owners have invested millions of dollars to acquire the |
10 | franchise, dealership facilities and real estate; and |
11 | WHEREAS, General Motors brand dealers have been pillars in |
12 | local economies and communities; and |
13 | WHEREAS, The dealership cuts will hurt many rural communities |
14 | by forcing customers to travel long distances to have their |
15 | vehicles serviced; and |
16 | WHEREAS, The National Automobile Dealers Association has |
17 | estimated that the dealership closings will cause a loss of more |

1 | than 60,000 jobs nationally; and |
2 | WHEREAS, These dealers and employees have done nothing but |
3 | proudly represent General Motors brand and, today, find |
4 | themselves without any compensation and fair treatment to deal |
5 | with a situation they did not cause; therefore be it |
6 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the |
7 | Commonwealth of Pennsylvania call upon the Congress of the |
8 | United States to work with General Motors Corporation to ensure |
9 | that the General Motors brand dealership owners are treated |
10 | justly and compensated fairly; and be it further |
11 | RESOLVED, That the Congress of the United States protect the |
12 | General Motors brand dealership owners from being mistreated and |
13 | their dealerships from being transferred to competitors without |
14 | just compensation; and be it further |
15 | RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to |
16 | the President of the United States and to presiding officers of |
17 | each house of Congress and to each member of Congress from |
18 | Pennsylvania. |
