| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Memorializing the Congress of the United States to pass the |
2 | Veterans' Heritage Firearms Act of 2011. |
3 | WHEREAS, American veterans who acquired certain types of |
4 | weapons during combat under rules of military conflict, guns |
5 | known as "trophy" firearms, are currently unable to legally |
6 | register these weapons; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Veterans who have kept their "trophy" firearms after |
8 | combat, many of which were acquired during World War II and the |
9 | Korean War, could be charged with illegal possession of firearms |
10 | which could lead to substantial prison time; and |
11 | WHEREAS, That situation would be a terrible insult to those |
12 | who valiantly served their country, many of whom are from the |
13 | "Greatest Generation"; and |
14 | WHEREAS, The Veterans' Heritage Firearms Act of 2011, |
15 | sponsored by Senator Jon Tester of Montana, creates an amnesty |
16 | period of 90 days during which veterans and their family members |

1 | can register certain firearms in the National Firearms |
2 | Registration and Transfer Record for legal ownership; and |
3 | WHEREAS, The legislation applies to machine guns and other |
4 | automatic firearms, and it does not impact "trophy" weapons such |
5 | as bolt-action rifles or semiautomatic pistols which do not need |
6 | to be registered; therefore be it |
7 | RESOLVED, That the Pennsylvania House of Representatives |
8 | memorialize the Congress of the United States to pass the |
9 | Veterans' Heritage Firearms Act of 2011; and be it further |
10 | RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to |
11 | the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to each |
12 | member of Congress from Pennsylvania. |
