76th OREGON LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY--2011 Regular Session Enrolled House Concurrent Resolution 35 Sponsored by COMMITTEE ON RULES Whereas the City of Sutherlin, a community in northern Douglas County, is observing its centennial this year; and Whereas Sutherlin was founded on May 3, 1911, when the Governor of the State of Oregon signed the declaration of incorporation of the city; and Whereas Sutherlin is located in a valley previously known as Camas Swale, for its abundance of blue camas; and Whereas Sutherlin was originally inhabited by members of the Umpqua Indians of Athapascan origin; and Whereas Sutherlin is named after early settler Fendel Sutherlin; and Whereas Sutherlin has a long history of using natural resources to the benefit of this great nation; and Whereas Sutherlin is in the land of the Umpqua, which is quickly becoming known worldwide for its wineries, fishing and quality of life; and Whereas Sutherlin is a family friendly town with strong schools, safe neighborhoods and tremendous community spirit reflected in its reputation for volunteerism and festivities such as the Blackberry Festival, the Sutherlin Stampede and the Umpqua Ultimate Triathalon; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Oregon: That we, the members of the Seventy-sixth Legislative Assembly, in commemorating the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Sutherlin, extend our gratitude and best wishes to those who live in and serve Sutherlin. ---------- Enrolled House Concurrent Resolution 35 (HCR 35-INTRO) Page 1 Adopted by House May 10, 2011 ---------------------------------- Ramona Kenady Line, Chief Clerk of House ---------------------------------- Bruce Hanna, Speaker of House ---------------------------------- Arnie Roblan, Speaker of House Adopted by Senate May 24, 2011 ---------------------------------- Peter Courtney, President of Senate Enrolled House Concurrent Resolution 35 (HCR 35-INTRO) Page 2
