                 House Concurrent Resolution 28

  Whereas Albany Police Officer Jason Hoerauf was born on August
17, 1972, to Robert and Diana Hoerauf in The Dalles; and
  Whereas Officer Hoerauf graduated from Santiam Christian High
School in Adair Village in 1990 and attended Linn-Benton
Community College in Albany as well as Concordia University in
Portland on a basketball scholarship; and
  Whereas Officer Hoerauf was employed by Hoerauf Concrete while
serving for more than six years as a reserve officer for the City
of Philomath Police Department, the Benton County Sheriff's
Office and the Albany Police Department prior to becoming a
police officer for the City of Albany; and
  Whereas Officer Hoerauf entered the Albany Police Department
recruit school in late 1999 and, upon graduation, was assigned to
the Albany Police Department; and
  Whereas Officer Hoerauf loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending
many days at the firing range in pursuit of his goal of becoming
a range instructor; and
  Whereas Officer Hoerauf was killed in the line of duty on
September 4, 2001, when he and Oregon State Police Senior Trooper
Maria Mignano were struck and instantly killed by a driver of a
vehicle as the officers were assisting a family with a disabled
van along Interstate 5 near the Ankeny Hill exit; and
  Whereas Officer Hoerauf was a hardworking, dedicated law
enforcement officer who loved serving with the Albany Police
Department; and
  Whereas Officer Hoerauf was the father of Morgan Hoerauf, who
was born shortly before his death and was the light of his life;
and
  Whereas Officer Hoerauf was well known for his positive
attitude and bright smile, and for giving credit where credit was
due, as he had a very grateful heart; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
  Oregon:

  That we, the members of the Seventy-sixth Legislative Assembly,
recognize and honor Officer Jason Hoerauf for his service to this
state.
