77th OREGON LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY--2013 Regular Session Enrolled House Concurrent Resolution 20 Sponsored by Representative PARRISH, Senator DEVLIN Whereas Alice Richmond was born in Lyons, France, on May 26, 1930, and moved to New York, New York, in 1949; and Whereas Alice Richmond had an entrepreneurial spirit from a young age and was a shop owner on Madison Avenue in New York as well as a clothing designer for Seventh Avenue, an apparel company; and Whereas Alice Richmond married Robert Richmond, a United States Navy veteran, in 1953, and they moved with their daughters to West Linn, Oregon, in 1958; and Whereas Alice Richmond has lived in West Linn for 55 years and in that span has been an integral part of the community, known for her forward-thinking leadership and problem solving; and Whereas Alice Richmond carried her passion for fashion design from New York to Oregon, worked for Pendleton Woolen Mills from 1959 to 2001 and was instrumental in launching their women's line of clothing; and Whereas Alice Richmond is a living piece of West Linn's centennial history and has been a leader in developing a culture of community for the residents of West Linn; and Whereas Alice Richmond has been politically active in city issues, including working on initiatives for parks, water infrastructure and schools, running for mayor in 2008 and serving on the political action committee board to build a new police building for the West Linn Police Department; and Whereas Alice Richmond is a regular contributor in the { - West Linn Tidings - }, writing on all manner of issues that affect West Linn, and regularly attends nearly all of the West Linn City Council and West Linn Planning Commission meetings; and Whereas Alice Richmond has taken the initiative to launch or assist in the launch of many of West Linn's most popular community events, including the Central Village Summer Days and the Oktoberfest, has worked to produce the Summer Fun Music Concerts and the annual Fourth of July fireworks in historic Willamette Park and has created the 9/11 Yellow Ribbon Project to honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001; and Whereas Alice Richmond is the heart of West Linn and a treasure to the city; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Oregon: That we, the members of the Seventy-seventh Legislative Assembly, honor Alice Richmond for her innovation, entrepreneurship and the dedication she has shown to the City of West Linn. ---------- Enrolled House Concurrent Resolution 20 (HCR 20-INTRO) Page 1 Adopted by House May 21, 2013 ---------------------------------- Ramona J.
