75th OREGON LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY--2010 Special Session Enrolled House Concurrent Resolution 100 Sponsored by COMMITTEE ON VETERANS AND EMERGENCY SERVICES Whereas Fred Rosenbaum, an Oregon leader, philanthropist and Holocaust survivor, died January 12, 2010; and Whereas Fred Rosenbaum, who grew up in Austria as the Nazis rose to power, fled to England through an organized rescue movement and lived there for almost two years before he was reunited with his family; and Whereas Fred Rosenbaum arrived in Portland with his family in 1943 and, as soon as he turned 18, enlisted in the United States Army so he could fight the Germans; and Whereas after World War II, Fred Rosenbaum graduated from Portland State University and then embarked on a distinguished career as an insurance businessman; and Whereas Fred Rosenbaum was chairman of the Housing Authority of Portland for 15 years and was a vocal and ardent supporter of housing for seniors and minorities; and Whereas Fred Rosenbaum entered the Oregon National Guard as a private and retired in 1986 as a brigadier general in the Oregon Air National Guard; and Whereas many landmarks in this state bear Fred Rosenbaum's name, including the Fred Rosenbaum Hangar at the Portland, Oregon Air National Guard Base, where soldiers returning from Iraq are welcomed home; and Whereas Fred Rosenbaum founded a camp for children at Camp Rilea on the Oregon Coast that has hosted more than 6,500 underprivileged children and is now known as Camp Rosenbaum; and Whereas Fred Rosenbaum, whose experience in Nazi Germany impacted his entire life, was heralded as an 'Oregon treasure ' and was an unwavering patriot and a tireless philanthropist; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Oregon: That we, the members of the Seventy-fifth Legislative Assembly, in special legislative session assembled, express our condolences to the family of Fred Rosenbaum and recognize and express our gratitude for Fred Rosenbaum's unwavering love of this country, service to Oregon, philanthropic activities and desire to make this world a better place. ---------- Enrolled House Concurrent Resolution 100 (HCR 100-INTRO) Page 1 Adopted by House February 16, 2010 ---------------------------------- Chief Clerk of House ---------------------------------- Speaker of House Adopted by Senate February 23, 2010 ---------------------------------- President of Senate Enrolled House Concurrent Resolution 100 (HCR 100-INTRO) Page 2
