                             SUMMARY

The following summary is not prepared by the sponsors of the

consideration by the Legislative Assembly. It is an editor's
brief statement of the essential features of the measure as
introduced.

  Specifies minimum number of instructional days that class
schedule adopted by district school board must provide.

                        A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to instructional days of a school year.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
  SECTION 1.  { + (1) Except as provided in subsection (2) of
this section, each district school board shall adopt a class
schedule that provides no fewer than 180 instructional days each
school year to students who attend a school of the district.
  (2) If a school district has a four-day school week, a district
school board may adopt a class schedule that provides fewer than
180 instructional days each school year.
  (3) The State Board of Education shall adopt rules that
establish the standards of an instructional day. Rules adopted
under this subsection may require different minimum and maximum
numbers of hours in an instructional day according to:
  (a) The grade level of the student.
  (b) Whether the school district has a four-day school week or a
five-day school week. + }
