Designating Peace Corps Day in Ohio,March 1, 2011. |
WHEREAS, The members of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to declare March 1, 2011, as Peace Corps Day in Ohio; and |
WHEREAS, The Peace Corps was established by President John F. Kennedy on March 1, 1961, to promote peace and friendship around the world, and since then, the group has continued to meet the ever-changing needs of individuals in more than one hundred thirty countries. Striving to meet global needs, it brings a variety of programs in the areas of education, health and HIV/AIDS, business and information communication technology, the environment, agriculture, and youth development to requesting countries, thus strengthening its worldly vision; and |
WHEREAS, Since the inception of the Peace Corps, hundreds of thousands of Americans have volunteered to serve, and more than eight thousand volunteers are currently stationed in seventy-seven countries. In addition to acquiring valuable technical and leadership skills that benefit them in their professional careers, these fine individuals gain a better understanding of the cultures of the people they assist while helping them understand American culture; and |
WHEREAS, Over the years, the Peace Corps has enhanced the quality of life for countless people. We are proud to note that it is through the generous efforts of conscientious organizations such as this that the United States has gained a reputation as a nation dedicated to and concerned about the diverse needs of others; therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, declare March 1, 2011, as Peace Corps Day in Ohio; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the Peace Corps and the news media of Ohio. |
