        Introduced  by  Sen.  GOLDEN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation
        AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to dealer  fees
          for registering a motor vehicle
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section 1. Subdivision 1 of section 401 of the vehicle and traffic law
     2  is amended by adding a new paragraph c to read as follows:
     3    c. Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, any dealer in
     4  motor vehicles registered pursuant to section four  hundred  fifteen  of
     5  this  title may charge a person who purchases a vehicle from such dealer
     6  a fee for assisting in securing a  registration  and/or  certificate  of
     7  title  for  such  vehicle,  provided  the  dealer  actually performs the
     8  service of filing the application for title and/or registration with the
     9  commissioner or his or her issuing agent. The fee charged by the  dealer
    10  may  not  exceed  four  hundred ninety-nine dollars.   Such fee does not
    11  include the fee required to be paid to the department  for  issuance  of
    12  the  registration  or  for issuance of a certificate of title, nor shall
    13  such fee include the fee charged for the motor vehicle inspection of the
    14  vehicle.
    15    § 2. This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day  after  it  shall
    16  have become a law.
