       Introduced  by  Sen.  O'MARA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
         printed to be committed to the Committee on Investigations and Govern-
         ment Operations
       AN ACT to amend the  public  officers  law,  in  relation  to  residency
         requirements for peace officers employed by Cornell University
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Section 3 of the public officers law is amended by adding a
    2  new subdivision 59 to read as follows:
    3    59. IN RESPECT TO PEACE OFFICERS EMPLOYED BY CORNELL UNIVERSITY PURSU-
    4  ANT TO SECTION FIFTY-SEVEN  HUNDRED  NINE  OF  THE  EDUCATION  LAW,  THE
    5  PROVISIONS  OF  THIS  SECTION REQUIRING A PERSON TO BE A RESIDENT OF THE
    6  POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OR MUNICIPAL CORPORATION OF THE STATE FOR WHICH HE
    7  OR SHE SHALL BE CHOSEN OR WITHIN WHICH HIS OR HER OFFICIAL FUNCTIONS ARE
    8  REQUIRED TO BE EXERCISED SHALL NOT PREVENT A PERSON FROM  SERVING  AS  A
    9  PEACE  OFFICER  FOR CORNELL UNIVERSITY OR AS A SPECIAL DEPUTY SHERIFF AS
   10  DEFINED IN SUBDIVISION FORTY-TWO OF SECTION 2.10 OF THE CRIMINAL  PROCE-
   11  DURE LAW, PROVIDED THAT SUCH PERSON RESIDES IN THE STATE OF NEW YORK.
   12    S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
