STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 6932 2017-2018 Regular Sessions IN SENATE October 27, 2017 ___________ Introduced by Sen. VALESKY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to prohibiting bus routes from stopping in front of the residence of a registered sex offender The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 3622 of the education law, as amended by chapter 2 474 of the laws of 1996, is amended to read as follows: 3 § 3622. Routes. (a) The board of education or trustees shall plan each 4 school transportation route, as defined in subdivision three of section 5 thirty-six hundred twenty-one of this article, in such manner as to 6 promote maximum efficiency in the operation of a school bus on such 7 route. Whenever practicable each route shall be planned to operate with- 8 in the boundary of a school district. If any or all pupils of a school 9 district receive instruction in a school or schools beyond the boundary 10 of such district, the board shall plan a route or routes beyond the 11 boundary of such district to such school or schools for such pupils. 12 (b) Whenever practicable and safe for the pupil, the board of educa- 13 tion or trustees shall be prohibited from designating school bus stops 14 in front of the residence of any registered level three sex offender or 15 registered level two sex offender whose victim was under the age of 16 eighteen. 17 § 2.
