LAVALLE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules AN ACT to amend the village law, in relation to including a high school member on village boards of trustees THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 1 Section 1. Paragraph b of subdivision 1 of section 3-301 of the 2 village law is amended to read as follows: 3 b. four trustees, except that the board of trustees of a village may 4 change the number of trustees as authorized by section 3-304 of this 5 article, AND EXCEPT THAT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF A VILLAGE MAY APPOINT 6 ONE EX OFFICIO STUDENT MEMBER TO SUCH BOARD AS AUTHORIZED BY SECTION 7 3-305 OF THIS ARTICLE; 8 S 2. The village law is amended by adding a new section 3-305 to read 9 as follows: 10 S 3-305 EX OFFICIO STUDENT TRUSTEE. THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES BY RESOL- 11 UTION OR LOCAL LAW, SUBJECT TO PERMISSIVE REFERENDUM, MAY APPOINT ONE EX 12 OFFICIO STUDENT MEMBER TO SUCH BOARD. SUCH STUDENT MEMBER SHALL BE A 13 SENIOR IN A HIGH SCHOOL OF A SCHOOL DISTRICT IN WHICH ALL OR PART OF 14 SUCH SCHOOL DISTRICT IS CONTAINED WITHIN SUCH VILLAGE. THE TERM OF SUCH 15 STUDENT MEMBER SHALL BE FOR ONE YEAR AND SHALL BEGIN ON THE JULY FIRST 16 PRECEDING THE SENIOR YEAR OF SUCH STUDENT MEMBER AND END THE FOLLOWING 17 JUNE THIRTIETH. A VACANCY IN SUCH OFFICE MAY BE FILLED BY THE BOARD FOR 18 THE REMAINDER OF SUCH TERM. 19 S 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
