LARKIN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government AN ACT to amend the village law, in relation to continue the existence and operation of the Woodbury fire district within the village of Woodbury, in the county of Orange THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 1 Section 1. Section 2-254 of the village law is amended by adding a new 2 subdivision 10 to read as follows: 3 10. NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF THIS ARTICLE AND REGARDLESS 4 OF THE INCORPORATION OF THE VILLAGE OF WOODBURY, THE WOODBURY FIRE 5 DISTRICT, IN THE COUNTY OF ORANGE, SHALL NOT CEASE TO EXIST AS A RESULT 6 OF THE INCORPORATION OF THE VILLAGE OF WOODBURY, BUT SHALL CONTINUE TO 7 EXIST AND OPERATE AS A DISTRICT CORPORATION AND POLITICAL SUBDIVISION 8 OF THE STATE, AS IT EXISTED AND OPERATED ON DECEMBER THIRTY-FIRST, TWO 9 THOUSAND SIX. SUCH FIRE DISTRICT AND THE FIRE COMPANIES THEREOF SHALL 10 CONTINUE TO PROVIDE FIRE PROTECTION SERVICES ON AND AFTER JUNE FIRST, 11 TWO THOUSAND NINE, WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF SUCH DISTRICT. THE BOARD OF 12 FIRE COMMISSIONERS OF SUCH FIRE DISTRICT SHALL CONTINUE AS THE GOVERNING 13 BODY OF THE WOODBURY FIRE DISTRICT AND ALL OFFICERS OF THE FIRE DISTRICT 14 SHALL CONTINUE TO SERVE AND ACT IN THEIR RESPECTIVE CAPACITIES ON AND 15 AFTER JUNE FIRST, TWO THOUSAND NINE. ALL ASSETS, DEBTS, LIABILITIES, 16 CONTRACTS, CAUSES OF ACTION AND OTHER ENTITLEMENTS OF THE WOODBURY FIRE 17 DISTRICT AND THE FIRE COMPANIES THEREOF SHALL SURVIVE ON AND AFTER JUNE 18 FIRST, TWO THOUSAND NINE. 19 S 2. This act shall take effect immediately; provided, however, that 20 if this act shall not have become a law on or before June 1, 2009, it 21 shall take effect immediately and shall be deemed to have been in full 22 force and effect on and after June 1, 2009.
