        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to prohibiting the alter-
          ing of a student's official records, files and/or data
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section 1. Subdivision 9-a of section 225 of  the  education  law,  as
     2  added by chapter 443 of the laws of 1980, is amended to read as follows:
     3    9-a.    Knowingly  and willfully make an unauthorized and false alter-
     4  ation or representation of any [grade, credit, honor, award or  standing
     5  in  the  permanent record or transcript of any student with respect to a
     6  school or college under the supervision of the regents, the  commission-
     7  er, or the university of the state of New York] official records related
     8  to a student and maintained by a school or college under the supervision
     9  of  the regents, the commissioner, or the university of the state of New
    10  York, including identifying data, grades, records of attendance, records
    11  of student achievement, assessment results,  disciplinary  records,  and
    12  individualized education programs.
    13    §  2.  This act shall take effect on the first of July next succeeding
    14  the date on which it shall have become a law.
