          printed to be committed to the Committee on Education
        AN ACT to amend the education law, in  relation  to  classroom  security
          devices
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 2801-c
     2  to read as follows:
     3    § 2801-c. Classroom security  devices.  Within  five  years  from  the
     4  effective  date  of this section, the board of education or trustees, as
     5  defined in section two of this chapter, of every school district  within
     6  the  state,  however created, and every board of cooperative educational
     7  services and county vocational education and  extension  board  and  the
     8  chancellor of the city school district of the city of New York shall:
     9    1.  Install  a  dedicated  panic  button in each classroom within such
    10  district;
    11    2. Provide or install an additional security device in each  classroom
    12  within  such  district,  which secures the door of such classroom beyond
    13  the level of security provided by standard door locks. The commissioner,
    14  in consultation with the superintendent of state police,  shall  promul-
    15  gate a list of devices that meet the requirements of this subdivision.
    16    §  2.  This act shall take effect on the first of July next succeeding
    17  the date on which it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the
    18  addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule  or  regulation  necessary
    19  for  the implementation of this act on its effective date are authorized
    20  and directed to be made and completed on or before such effective date.
