STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 3500 2023-2024 Regular Sessions IN SENATE January 31, 2023 ___________ Introduced by Sen. STAVISKY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Higher Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to excluding certain graduate students from mandatory fees The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Paragraph h of subdivision 2 of section 355 of the educa- 2 tion law is amended by adding a new subparagraph 11 to read as follows: 3 (11) All current and future mandatory fees owed on or after January 4 first, two thousand twenty-four, with the exclusion of the graduate 5 student association student activities fee, shall not be charged to a 6 graduate student serving a full-time or half-time appointment as a grad- 7 uate teaching assistant, graduate assistant, graduate research assist- 8 ant, graduate research associate, or a graduate teaching associate. 9 § 2. Subdivision 7 of section 6206 of the education law is amended by 10 adding a new subparagraph (g) to read as follows: 11 (g) All current and future mandatory fees owed on or after January 12 first, two thousand twenty-four, with the exclusion of the graduate 13 student association student activities fee, shall not be charged to a 14 graduate student serving as a graduate assistant, adjunct instructor, 15 adjunct lecturer, adjunct college laboratory technician or a non-teach- 16 ing adjunct staff member. 17 § 3.
