        Introduced  by Sens. CARLUCCI, SAVINO -- read twice and ordered printed,
          and when printed to be committed to the Committee on  Veterans,  Home-
          land Security and Military Affairs
        AN  ACT relating to the distribution of potassium iodide in a radiologi-
          cal emergency
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section  1.  The disaster preparedness commission shall revise the New
     2  York state radiological emergency preparedness plan to mandate the  pre-
     3  distribution of potassium iodide to personnel monitoring centers, prima-
     4  ry  MS-1  hospital facilities, and state emergency management facilities
     5  located within a fifty mile radius of nuclear power sites  for  distrib-
     6  ution  to populations in the event of a radiological emergency.  Outside
     7  of the current 10 mile radius, the state shall  reimburse  counties  for
     8  the  purchase of potassium iodide.  The commission, in consultation with
     9  the department of health, shall develop a set of standards and protocols
    10  for pre-distribution of potassium iodide as provided in this act.    The
    11  provision of this act shall be implemented within amounts made available
    12  by appropriation therefor.
    13    § 2. This act shall take effect April 1, 2020.
