MAZIARZ -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Environmental Conservation AN ACT to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to authorizing persons to hunt with a crossbow THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 1 Section 1. Subdivision 2 of section 3-0301 of the environmental 2 conservation law is amended by adding a new paragraph dd to read as 3 follows: 4 DD. ON OR BEFORE JULY FIRST, TWO THOUSAND ELEVEN PROMULGATE STANDARDS 5 TO ALLOW FOR LEGALIZED CROSSBOW HUNTING THROUGHOUT THE STATE INCLUDING 6 THE USE OF A CROSSBOW ON PRIVATE PROPERTY AS A LEGAL HUNTING IMPLEMENT 7 DURING ANY DEER HUNTING SEASON. FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS PARAGRAPH, THE 8 TERM "CROSSBOW" SHALL MEAN A BOW AND STRING (EITHER COMPOUND OR RECURVE) 9 THAT LAUNCHES A MINIMUM FOURTEEN INCH ARROW (NOT INCLUDING POINT), 10 MOUNTED UPON A STOCK WITH A TRIGGER THAT HOLDS THE STRING AND LIMBS 11 UNDER TENSION UNTIL RELEASED. THE TRIGGER UNIT MUST HAVE A WORKING SAFE- 12 TY. THE MINIMUM LIMB WIDTH TO A CROSSBOW SHALL BE SEVENTEEN INCHES, HAVE 13 A MINIMUM PEAK DRAW WEIGHT OF ONE HUNDRED POUNDS AND A MAXIMUM PEAK DRAW 14 WEIGHT OF TWO HUNDRED POUNDS. THE MINIMUM OVERALL LENGTH OF A CROSSBOW 15 FROM BUTT TO STOCK TO FRONT OF LIMBS SHALL BE TWENTY-FOUR INCHES. 16 S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
