The commissioner of education is authorized and directed to 2 conduct a survey regarding instruction on the Holocaust within the 3 state. Such survey shall focus on identifying which school districts 4 subject to section eight hundred one of the education law provide 5 instruction on the Holocaust. Such survey shall include as appropriate, 6 questions on how the district is meeting the learning standards for 7 instruction requirements on the Holocaust pursuant to section eight 8 hundred one of the education law. Such survey shall also require an 9 attestation from each school district superintendent that indicates 10 instruction related to the Holocaust is provided at all appropriate 11 grade levels in compliance with section eight hundred one of the educa- 12 tion law. 13 § 2. Findings shall include detailed results of the survey, the extent 14 the survey data submitted was compliant with section eight hundred one EXPLANATION--Matter in italics (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [] is old law to be omitted. A report of the findings of such 3 survey shall be delivered to the governor, the temporary president of 4 the senate, the speaker of the assembly, the minority leader of the 5 senate and the minority leader of the assembly the first of January 6 following the effective date of this act or one hundred twenty days 7 after the effective date of this act, whichever is later. 8 § 3. Each school district that does not respond to such survey or does 9 not affirmatively attest that such instruction is provided pursuant to 10 section two of this act shall prepare and implement a corrective action 11 plan to comply with the instruction required by section eight hundred 12 one of the education law. Such corrective action plan shall be submitted 13 for approval by the commissioner of education in a timeframe, and form 14 and format, acceptable to the commissioner. 15 § 4. This act shall take effect immediately.
