        COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of The College
        of Saint Rose in Albany, New York

  WHEREAS,  New  York State's commitment to education is unparalleled;
its history and stature are secured by the superlative  caliber  of  its
educational professionals and the students they inspire; and

  WHEREAS,  It  is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of true purpose and  high  achievement  whose
exemplary  programs  and accomplishments clearly demonstrate an enduring
pursuit of excellence in higher education for the youth  of  this  noble
Empire State; and

  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
commemorate  the  100th  Anniversary  of  The  College  of Saint Rose in
Albany, New York, to be celebrated at its Centennial  Founder's  Day  on
Tuesday, September 22, 2020; and

  WHEREAS,  On  September  22,  1920,  the  Sisters  of  St. Joseph of
Carondelet founded The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York; and

  WHEREAS, Since its inception, The College of Saint  Rose  emphasized
the  professional  training  of teachers for which it is renowned, along
with a diverse offering of liberal arts  majors  and  programs;  in  the
early  years,  that  emphasis expanded to prepare women for business and
other professions; and

  WHEREAS, In 1946, men were first admitted as the College opened  its
evening  division  for  returning World War II veterans and the graduate
school three years later; in 1969, The  College  of  Saint  Rose  became
fully coeducational; and

  WHEREAS,  From  those  humble  beginnings, The College of Saint Rose
grew into a progressive,  independent  college  dedicated  to  providing
students  from  all  religious  and cultural backgrounds with a rigorous
educational experience and the opportunity to cultivate  their  creative
and spiritual gifts; and

  WHEREAS,   Furthermore,   its  diverse  learning  community  fosters
integrity, interdependence, and mutual respect; and

  WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, The College  of  Saint  Rose
continues to embrace the Sisters of St. Joseph's tenet to "love thy dear
neighbor"  and  strives  to  instill  the value of community service and
leadership in its students; and

  WHEREAS, The success of The College  of  Saint  Rose  is  in  direct
correlation  to  the efforts of its faculty and staff, whose involvement
is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive  commitment,  an
unbridled  enthusiasm,  and  an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the institution and the community it  serves;
and


  WHEREAS,  Today,  under  the visionary guidance of Interim President
Marcia J. White, The College  of  Saint  Rose  truly  stands  proud  and
prominent, and is an integral part of the City of Albany and the Capital
Region; and

  WHEREAS,  Steeped  in a proud and distinguished history, The College
of Saint Rose may look back with pride upon its humble beginnings,  find
just  satisfaction in its purposeful growth, and hold true of purpose in
its dedication to serving the educational needs of  its  students;  now,
therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of The College of Saint  Rose,  noting
the  propriety  of  its  goals,  the constancy of its commitment and the
significance of its accomplishments; and be it further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted  to Marcia J. White, Interim President, The College of Saint
Rose.
