        HONORING  Jesse  Schantz  upon the occasion of his
        designation  as  recipient  of  the  Randy  Streeter
        Senior Citizen of the Year Award by the Lewis County
        Office for the Aging

  WHEREAS,  Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play  in  today's  society;  their
past  contributions  and  future  participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative  Body  to  commend  the
senior  citizens  of the Empire State who, as they reach the fullness of
years, continue to be active and vital participants in the life of their
community; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Jesse  Schantz  upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Randy Streeter Senior Citizen of the Year  Award  by  the  Lewis  County
Office for the Aging; and

  WHEREAS,   Jesse   Schantz   has  continually  demonstrated  extreme
competence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent  leadership  in  his
unwavering service to his community and, consequently, has been selected
for this most prestigious honor; and

  WHEREAS,   With   a  steadfast  and  unwavering  commitment  to  his
community, Jesse Schantz has given tirelessly of his time  and  energies
to  countless  organizations including the Castorland Baptist Church and
the Copenhagen Senior Club; he was a member of the  Denmark  Town  Board
and  served  as Councilman and Justice of the Peace from January 1, 1970
to July 10, 1978, and Lewis County Clerk from 1979 to 1993; and

  WHEREAS, For much of his life, Jesse Schantz has been a  vital  part
of the Lewis County agricultural community; for many years he has been a
member  of  the County Agricultural Society and was the secretary of the
Lewis County Fair Board from 1972-1996; the following year, he became an
emirates board member; and

  WHEREAS, In addition, Jesse Schantz has been actively involved  with
the  State  National  Grange, Lewis County Pomona Grange, State National
Grange, Lewis County 4-H,  Lewis  County  Maple  Producers  Association,
Northern  NY  Maple Producers Co-op, Lewis County Holstein Club, and the
Lewis County Farm Bureau; and

  WHEREAS, Jesse Schantz has been a  member  of  the  New  York  State
Association  of  Agricultural  Fairs  and held the title of President of
Fair Managers; today, he can often be found at  the  Lewis  County  Fair
tending  to its famous flower gardens and helping with the entries which
showcase multiple  different  local  talent  such  as  quilts,  cookies,
paintings, and photography; and

  WHEREAS,  In  1993,  the  Lewis County Fair Premium Book named Jesse
Schantz  "The  Heart  of  the  Fair"  for  his  many  great  works   and
contributions to the agriculture community; and

  WHEREAS,   Rare   indeed  is  the  impressive  dedication  shown  by
individuals for the benefit of others which Jesse Schantz has  displayed
throughout his life; and

  WHEREAS, Jesse Schantz has enriched the lives of his family, friends
and  colleagues through his love and respect for others, and through the
wisdom which comes from many years of living life to the  fullest;  now,
therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jesse Schantz upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Randy Streeter Senior Citizen of the Year Award by the Lewis  County
Office for the Aging; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jesse Schantz.
