        COMMENDING  Catherine E. Provost posthumously upon
        the  occasion  of  her   designation   for   special
        recognition  by Albany County at its Honor a Veteran
        Ceremony on March 2, 2020

  WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of  New  York,
who  have  served  so  valiantly  and  honorably  in  wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of  peace
in peace- time, deserve a special salute; and

  WHEREAS,  This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Catherine
E.   Provost posthumously upon  the  occasion  of  her  designation  for
special  recognition by Albany County at its Honor a Veteran Ceremony on
Monday, March 2, 2020, at the Zaloga Post No. 1520,  Albany,  New  York;
and

  WHEREAS,  In  June  of  1993,  a  committee was formed by the Albany
County Veterans Bureau, known as  the  Albany  County  Honor  a  Veteran
Committee,  created to honor a deceased Albany County veteran who served
his or her country in time of conflict;  the  Honor  a  Veteran  Program
takes place on the first Monday of each month; and

  WHEREAS,  Catherine  E.  Provost  was born on September 22, 1922, in
Albany, New York; and

  WHEREAS, On March 30, 1944, Catherine E.  Provost  enlisted  in  the
United  States  Military  and  proudly  served  her  country  as a First
Lieutenant in the 114th General Hospital with  the  United  States  Army
Nurse Corps; and

  WHEREAS,  After  enlisting  in  the  United States Army Nurse Corps,
Catherine E. Provost was stationed stateside for eight months at England
General Hospital in Atlantic City, New Jersey, for basic  training;  she
was  later reassigned to Halloran General Hospital in Staten Island, New
York; and

  WHEREAS, Catherine E. Provost was  then  assigned  overseas  to  the
114th  General  Hospital  in  England,  serving there for 13 months; she
became the charge nurse of the pre-operative/post-operative ward  before
being promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant; and

  WHEREAS,  For  her courageous service during World War II, Catherine
E.   Provost was awarded the  European-African-Middle  Eastern  Campaign
Medal and a World War II Victory Medal; and

  WHEREAS,  Upon  the  completion  of her military service on March 9,
1946, Catherine  E.  Provost  was  briefly  employed  with  St.  Peter's
Hospital  before  taking a position at the Veteran's Hospital in Albany;
and

  WHEREAS, While at the Veterans Hospital, she received  the  Florence
Nightingale  Award,  the  hospital's  highest  recognition  for nursing;

Catherine  E.  Provost  retired  as  Chief  Nurse  after  25  years   of
distinguished service; and

  WHEREAS, Catherine E. Provost died on August 24, 2009, at the age of
86; and

  WHEREAS,  Having  exhibited  her patriotism both at home and abroad,
Catherine E. Provost demonstrated her love for her  country  and  merits
forevermore, the highest respect of this State and Nation; and

  WHEREAS,  Our  Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
commend  Catherine  E.  Provost  posthumously  upon  the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by Albany  County  at  its  Honor  a
Veteran Ceremony on March 2, 2020; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Catherine E. Provost.
