Senate Resolution No. 2735 BY: Senator TEDISCO HONORING Jack Falvo Jr. upon the occasion of his retirement after 40 years of distinguished service to the Schenectady Police Department WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this great Empire State; and WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication, command the respect and admiration of their community for their exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Jack Falvo Jr. upon the occasion of his retirement from the Schenectady Police Department; his official walkout ceremony will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020; and WHEREAS, Jack Falvo Jr. began his tenure with the Schenectady Police Department on January 7, 1980, as a Patrolman; since then, he has climbed up the ranks to serve as Sergeant, Lieutenant and his current position as Assistant Chief; he also served as active Chief during a nine-month period in 2002; and WHEREAS, In 2018, Jack Falvo Jr. was chosen by the Mayor to oversee the Buildings Department in 2018, an effort designed to improve coordination between the building, police and fire department, and fix issues with code enforcement following a fatal 2015 Jay Street fire in Schenectady, New York; and WHEREAS, Coined by the Schenectady City Council as the "unofficial Mayor of Goose Hill", Jack Falvo Jr. is a proud graduate of the FBI National Academy and received the Thomas A. Constantine Leadership Law Enforcement Award in 2017; and WHEREAS, Jack Falvo Jr. also formed "Jack's Place" in memory of his late son Jack Falvo III, which is a foundation designed to house out-of-town patients of Ellis Medicine and Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital; and WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor Jack Falvo Jr. upon the occasion of his retirement from the Schenectady Police Department, noting the extensive work he has done over his illustrious four-decade career to better the City of Schenectady; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Jack Falvo Jr.
