Senate Resolution No. 2647

        CONGRATULATING   student-athlete  Kelly  O'Krepkie
        upon her designation as United States Lacrosse  WCLA
        Division II Preseason Player of the Year

  WHEREAS,  Excellence  and  success  in  competitive  sports  can  be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team  play  and  team  spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

  WHEREAS,  Athletic  competition  enhances  the  moral  and  physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing  them  for  the
future  by  instilling  in  them  the  value  of teamwork, encouraging a
standard  of  healthy  living,  imparting  a  desire  for  success   and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

  WHEREAS,  It  is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the State of New York  who,  by
achieving outstanding success in athletic competition, have inspired and
brought pride to their school and community; and

  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
congratulate  student-athlete  Kelly  O'Krepkie  upon her designation as
United States Lacrosse WCLA Division II Preseason Player  of  the  Year;
and

  WHEREAS,  A  Port  Washington,  New York native, Kelly O'Krepkie has
been a vital part of the Loyola  Marymount  Women's  Lacrosse  Program's
recent  successes;  over  the  past  two  seasons,  the  Greyhounds have
captured back-to-back titles,  and  they  are  once  again  amongst  the
favorites in 2020; and

  WHEREAS,  With  her  split-second  decision  making, Kelly O'Krepkie
helped fuel an explosive offense which put up record setting numbers  at
the WCLA championship tournament in each of the past two seasons; and

  WHEREAS,  In 2018, the Greyhounds scored 68 goals in four tournament
games, the second highest total ever, and capped their championship  run
off  with  a  lopsided  14-3  win  over defending champion Denver; Kelly
O'Krepkie masterfully directed the offense that day, finishing with four
goals and four assists en route to being selected  as  the  tournament's
most outstanding attacker; and

  WHEREAS,  Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride,
and accomplishment, Kelly O'Krepkie has clearly made a  contribution  to
the  spirit  of  excellence  which  is  a  tradition of her school; now,
therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
congratulate  student-athlete  Kelly  O'Krepkie  upon her designation as
United States Lacrosse WCLA Division II Preseason Player  of  the  Year,
and  to  wish  her  the  best of luck in her 2020 season with the Loyola
Marymount Greyhounds Women's Lacrosse Team; and be it further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to Kelly O'Krepkie.
