        CELEBRATING   the  18th  Anniversary  of  the  ONE
        Campaign

  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize  that
the  quality  and  character  of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and  dedicated  efforts  of  those
individuals  and  organizations  that  are devoted to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
celebrate the 18th Anniversary of the ONE Campaign, and to commend  them
for  all  they have done fighting to end world hunger and find cures for
treatable and preventable diseases; and

  WHEREAS,  The  ONE  Campaign  is  an   international,   nonpartisan,
non-profit,  and  advocacy  organization that fights extreme poverty and
preventable diseases; they are an  organization  that  has  helped  many
people around the world; and

  WHEREAS,  The  ONE  Campaign  advocates  for  the achievement of the
Sustainable Development Goals and for policies that  benefit  those  who
live in conditions of extreme poverty around the globe; and

  WHEREAS,  Furthermore,  the ONE Campaign supports a broad variety of
international development issues, including the fight against  treatable
and  preventable  diseases  like  HIV/AIDS,  malaria,  and tuberculosis;
access to clean water and expanded access to energy; and providing basic
education for all; and

  WHEREAS, The ONE Campaign was founded by  Irish  musician  Bono  and
American  attorney Bobby Shriver, along with 11 organizations: Bread for
the World, CARE, DATA, International Medical Corps, International Rescue
Committee, Mercy Corps, Oxfam America, Plan USA, Save the Children U.S.,
World Concern, and World Vision; and

  WHEREAS, The name ONE was inspired by the  belief  that  one  voice,
coming  together  with  many others can change the world for the better;
and

  WHEREAS, The official ONE launch rally was held on May 16, 2004,  at
Liberty Mall in Philadelphia, United States; and

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to call attention
to  organizations  such as the ONE Campaign, which serve to bring people
together for the united purpose of  actively  pursuing  improvements  in
their communities; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate the 18th Anniversary of the ONE Campaign; and be it further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to the ONE Campaign.
