Senate Resolution No. 497 BY: Senator BRESLIN COMMENDING Audrey H. Kennedy posthumously upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by Albany County at its Honor a Veteran Ceremony on March 4, 2019 WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peace- time, deserve a special salute; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Audrey H. Kennedy posthumously upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by Albany County at its Honor a Veteran Ceremony on Monday, March 4, 2019, at the Zaloga Post No. 1520, Albany, New York; and WHEREAS, In June of 1993, a committee was formed by the Albany County Veterans Bureau, known as the Albany County Honor a Veteran Committee, created to honor a deceased Albany County veteran who served his country in time of conflict; the Honor a Veteran Program takes place on the first Monday of each month; and WHEREAS, Audrey H. Kennedy was born on May 18, 1927, in Brooklyn, New York; and WHEREAS, On September 20, 1950, Audrey H. Kennedy enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served her country as a Captain with the 101st Medical Air Evacuation Squadron during the Korean War; and WHEREAS, In this capacity, Captain Audrey H. Kennedy flew on missions from Japan and Korea, caring for wounded soldiers being transported from Korea to Japan and the Philippines; she then served in the Air Force Reserve and the New York Air National Guard; and WHEREAS, For her courageous service during the War, Captain Audrey H. Kennedy was awarded the Air Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Korean Service Medal; and WHEREAS, Upon the completion of her military service in 1960, Audrey H. Kennedy served as a Public Health Nurse for two years in Brooklyn, and two years for Rensselaer County; she then worked for Cohoes Memorial Hospital for 24 years, and the Red Cross for five years; and WHEREAS, Active in her community, Audrey H. Kennedy was a life member of Boght Fire Department and held the titles of both Secretary and Vice President for the Ladies Auxiliary; she was actively involved with the Cohoes Senior Center, the Young at Heart Group through St. Ambrose Church, and St. Ann's Society at Holy Trinity Church; and WHEREAS, Audrey H. Kennedy died on June 28, 2018, in Cohoes, New York, at the age of 91; and WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing in action; and WHEREAS, Having exhibited her patriotism both at home and abroad, Audrey H. Kennedy demonstrated her love for her country and merits forevermore, the highest respect of her State and Nation; and WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commend Audrey H. Kennedy posthumously upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by Albany County at its Honor a Veteran Ceremony on March 4, 2019; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of Audrey H. Kennedy.
