Senate Resolution No. 162 BY: Senator ORTT MOURNING the death of Timothy R. Horanburg, dedicated public servant, beloved friend to many, and pillar of his community WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great State of New York; and WHEREAS, Timothy R. Horanburg of Olcott, New York, died on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at the age of 73; and WHEREAS, Timothy R. Horanburg distinguished himself in his profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of his community; and WHEREAS, Among working as Town Supervisor of Newfane, New York, the esteemed position from which he retired, Timothy R. Horanburg found employment at Noury Chemical, Hagemeyer Fire Safety Company, and Niagara County Emergency Management; he owned and operated Olcott Texaco, sold fire equipment, was a fire investigator, and was the Commissioner of the Niagara County Parks; and WHEREAS, Becoming the Town Supervisor of Newfane originally on March 7, 1984, Timothy R. Horanburg served in this capacity for 14 years before pursuing other endeavors; in January of 2006, he reassumed the position, serving until December 31, 2021 - the date at which he retired; and WHEREAS, Timothy R. Horanburg's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charitable and civic endeavors; and WHEREAS, A lifetime member of the Olcott Fire Company, Timothy R. Horanburg devoted 50 years of honorable service to the people of Olcott and surrounding communities; he held the admired titles of Assistant Chief and Chief during his service; and WHEREAS, Timothy R. Horanburg additionally was the past President of the Niagara County Fire Chiefs Association and Chairman of the Niagara County Water District; and WHEREAS, Always with service to his community in mind, Timothy R. Horanburg played an integral role in the revitalization of Main Street in Newfane; he prompted the construction of a memorial Veterans Park, the Lakeview Village Shoppes, and 'Ye Olde Log Cabin in Olcott; an impactful accomplishment, Timothy R. Horanburg secured funding for the construction of the Olcott Harbor Breakwall, prompting business and recreational development in its vicinity; and WHEREAS, Recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow award from Lions Club International, Timothy R. Horanburg was commended for his dedicated humanitarian service and timeless efforts and commitment to the Town of Newfane; and WHEREAS, A man of many interests and hobbies, Timothy R. Horanburg enjoyed weekend breakfasts with family, watching boats and sunsets on Lake Ontario, hunting with friends, golf cart rides, dinners on his porch overlooking the lake, trips to Las Vegas with his brother, and golf, football, and baseball; a prideful New Yorker, his favorite team was the Buffalo Bills, and he was a season ticket holder for many years; and WHEREAS, Timothy R. Horanburg was predeceased by his parents Alton and Winifred Horanburg; siblings David Horanburg, Cindy Poole, and Genevieve Warwick; and his dearest pet companions Enzo and Sammy; and WHEREAS, Timothy R. Horanburg is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Kathleen Horanburg; brother, Daniel; daughter, Shannon; son-in-law, Eric; granddaughters, Julia, Kara, Bailee and Sage; and great-granddaughters, Evelyn and Novallie; he is further survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends both near and far; and WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of compassion, Timothy R. Horanburg leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to mourn the death of Timothy R. Horanburg, dedicated public servant, beloved friend to many, and pillar of his community; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of Timothy R. Horanburg.
